Chapoutier’s Les Granilites is made from Marsanne grapes. Bright straw colour with pale gold tinged edges and a watery hue. The nose features aromas of ripe peaches and subtle dried apricots which are intermeshed with honeycomb, oily toast like notes and cinnamon spice. Rich peach and apricot fruits are tied to notions of honeycomb and bacon fat. Texturally full and luscious in the mouth with some ginger spice presenting itself on the back half. Nicely balanced acidity with a rich textured finish.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews…..
Slightly deeper gold in color, the 2016 Saint Joseph Les Granilites Blanc (100% Marsanne all from fine, granite soils) was bottled late in June (the entry-level whites are bottled in April), fermented partially in demi-muid and foudre, and aged in 10% new barrels (there are parts in foudre and stainless steel). Buttered citrus, crushed rocks, white flowers and a kiss of honeysuckle give way to a medium bodied, balanced, impressive white that has richness and freshness, as well as loads of character. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years.
