2016 Leconfield Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
First released in 1977, Leconfield’s Cabernet has had its highs and lows over the course of the journey. A recently consumed bottle of the 1998 proving a definite highlight. The 2016 vintage is another excellent rendition of this highly respected label, matured for 17 months in mostly French oak.
Richly flavoured yet elegant and refined in structure.
Dark and inky black in colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Hitting all the right notes the nose serves up aromatics of red to blackcurrant and mulberry fruit with cedary tobacco characters, dried herbs and whiffs of spicy bay leaf ensuing. Rich and expressive the medium weighted palate is filled with red to blackcurrant and mulberry flavours which flow onto a backdrop of cedary tobacco characters and spicy dried herbs. Slightly dryish but very fine grained tannins provide a great framework. Excellent depth with a long red and blackcurrant, mulberry, dusty cedar, tobacco and spicy dried herb aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
