A fresh, energetic red perfect for summer.

A delicious blend of 81% Syrah & 19% Gamay Noir. Opaque dark purple black tinged colour with a bright dark purple red hue. Freshly crushed dark cherry and blackberry aromas meld into some inky scorched earth characters with spicy incense end notes. The light to medium weight palate is bursting with juicy, just crushed fruit flavours including ripe dark cherries and blackberries that sit alongside some liquorice, scorched earth and spicy dried herbs. Dryish finish with faintly chalky tannins predominately concealed by youthful fruit that’s energized with fresh acidity. Finishes with a savoury aftertaste of crushed dark cherries, blackberries, inky earth and spicy dried herbs.

Syrah is the major player, as is whole bunch fermentation. The skills of the De Bortoli winemaking team in the Yarra Valley are limitless, and the team has a very large canvas on which to portray its art. This example has great colour, vibrant red fruits and a profusion of spicy/pepper notes joining hands with fine, savoury whole bunch tannins. 'Wine Bar style' they say, but a pretty snappy one. Drink by 2020.
