2016 John Duval Entity Shiraz
Aged for 17 months in French oak. Impenetrable pitch black core with a vibrant dark purple black tinged hue. Elevated blackberry, liquorice and dark plum aromas evolve from the glass over subtlety smoked vanillin cedar and spicy pepper notes. Rich, silky and elegant in its mouthfeel the palate is blessed with blackberry, dark plum and liquorice flavours that glide into lightly smoked vanillin cedar and spice. Very polished and refined with velvet smooth tannins and a long spicy blackberry, dark plum, liquorice, smoky vanillin cedar and pepper aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
60% Barossa Valley, 40% Eden Valley grapes, open-fermented with submerged cap, matured for 15 months in new (33%) and used French hogsheads. Deeply coloured; this is at once full-bodied and elegant, not a common marriage with young red wines with decades in front of them. The flavours are all black: blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, earth and licorice. The old vines have also provided ripe tannins, the whole theme resonated with oak a la Grange. Drink by 2056.
