2016 Hentley Farm The Quintessential Shiraz Cabernet
A blend of 51% Shiraz and 49% Cabernet Sauvignon. Impenetrable midnight black core with a deep dark purple black tinged hue. Elevated blackberry, liquorice, blackcurrant and dark plum scents are supported by spicy vanillin cedar. Bold, rich and concentrated with blackberry and liquorice flavours initially dominate, some blackcurrant then kicks in. Ensuing is dusty vanillin cedar, light earthy tones and spice. Tightly built, robust yet finely grained tannins frame the fruit. Fresh acidity with a long spicy blackberry, blackcurrant, liquorice, dusty vanillin cedar and light earthy dried herb aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
A 51/49% blend, matured for 22 months in French oak (35% new). Well named - this is indeed quintessential Barossa Valley flavour and weight, blocking the way for anyone hoping to slip past without being noticed. The very long maceration of up to 65 days for some (unspecified) part of the blend has doubtless played a role, the new French oak another on the bouquet and palate alike. A query is the slightly turbid colour. Drink by 2031
