Totally opaque black dark red core with a dark red hue. Lifted smoky dark plum and liquorice aromas intermingle with dried meats, hints of clove and pepper. Medium to full bodied with a juicy feel and ample richness the palate sports spicy dark plum and liquorice flavours over a back ground of smoky clove like characters, some meatiness and pepper. Supple mid palate with fine grained, structured tannins imparting a touch of grip to the finish. Good depth with a medium to long spicy pepper and smoky dried herb infused aftertaste.
Cellar 4-5 years.
Alc. 14%

Other Reviews….
The oldest vineyard source for the Head Wines – 54 year old vines in Greenock – but also the least expensive. Includes 10% Mataro in the mix.
Grilled steak with pepper, herbs de Provence, almost a violet thing going on, black fruits, iron filings. Medium bodied, distinctly ferrous and meaty, almost bloody, seasoned with salt and herbs, streaks of gummy tannin, clean acidity, all that meat, blackness and herb on the finish. Dare I say it, the Rhône expression of Shiraz from Heady?
