2016 Felton Road Calvert Pinot Noir

Semi translucent dark red colour with a light crimson hue. Perfumed aromas of violets, ripe dark cherries, strawberries and anise ascend from the glass followed by lightly toasted oak, faint meaty characters and spice. Richly fruited with a soft silky feel, flavours of ripe dark cherries, strawberries and subtle anise decorate the palate with an underlying meatiness and spicy cedar following on. Velvet smooth tannins. Excellent power wave concluding with a long savoury aftertaste of spicy dark cherries, strawberries, a touch of anise, light toasty cedar and dried meats.

This has less charm and more punch than the Cornish Point. Plenty of earthy dark-fruited strength, some bold, darker plum-cherry flavors and quite expansive build into the finish. A full-flavored and assertive pinot noir. Drink now. Screw cap.
