Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Nosing reveals dark cherry and liquorice scents intertwined with dried meats, vanillin cedar, earth and spicy pepper. Medium bodied with a plush mouthfeel, there’s good richness to the ripe dark cherry and liquorice fruit. Lightly scorched vanillin cedar, some meatiness, light earth and pepper make an appearance on the back palate. Very polished tannins. Elegant conclusion of dark plum, liquorice, lightly smoked vanillin cedar, a touch of meatiness and spicy earth.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%

Other Reviews….
A local winemaker makes a wine from Duke's fruit each vintage, here styled by Andrew Hoadley of La Violetta fame. 20% whole bunches, open fermenters, left on skins 28 days and aged in French oak, 33% new. Dark garnet; it's super savoury and rich, a little reductive which adds a meaty element to the structured body. The oak rules (it will settle) with toasty nuances alongside intriguing roasted peppers, smoked pimento before leading to the sweet dark plums in the mix. Compelling and different. Drink by 2028.
