2016 Domaine des Escaravailles Les Antimagnes Cotes du Rhone
A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Totally opaque dark purple black colour with a bright dark purple red hue. Elevated scents of black raspberries, liquorice and black cherries gently laced with fresh herbs are trailed by some meaty notes and peppered earth. Mid weight and totally delicious, rich black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry flavours infused with incense fill the mouth. Elements of smoky earth and dried meats also chime in with a burst of spicy pepper on the fresh finish. Juicy mouthfeel with slightly chewy but ripe tannins. Long pepper infused aftertaste of black raspberries, liquorice, black cherries, scorched earth, some meatiness and spice. A terrific Cotes du Rhone that delivers killer value.

Other Reviews….
A terrific value (at least in Europe, where I could actually find it), the 2016 Cotes du Rhone les Antimagnes is a 70-30 blend of Grenache and Syrah that sees no oak. It combines tarry notes, black olives and black cherries with a supple, full-bodied feel in the mouth and a long, plush, velvety finish. It's a no-brainer for drinking over the next few years. Drink 2018-2022.
