2016 Chateau Verdignan

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a bright dark red black tinged hue. Elevated aromas of ripe red and black currants subtlety tinged with liquorice intermix with earthy tobacco characters, dusty cedar and spicy fresh herb notes. Elegant and structured in its feel there’s an attractive earthiness to the red and black currant fruit on the medium bodied palate. Cedary tobacco elements, subtle dried herbs and spice are also evident. Dryish finish with slightly chalky tannins and bright acidity leading into a chewy medium to long aftertaste.

Blueberry, blackcurrant and floral aromas follow through to a medium body and firm, chewy tannins. A blend of 70 per cent cabernet sauvignon, 25 per cent merlot and five per cent cabernet franc. Needs a year or two to soften. Better after 2020.
