Coutet is one the superstars of Barsac, their wines are typically noted for their elegance and style rather than weight and richness. At 38.5 hectares in size, Coutet is one of the largest vineyards in the region. Created by the Baly family in 1977, la Chartreuse de Coutet is their second wine. Made from the same vines and using the same winemaking techniques as the first label it is a blend of 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon and 2% Muscadelle. Fermentation takes place in barrel of which 50% are new with further ageing in oak for 18 months.

A delightful entry level Sauternes combining elegance and freshness with a luscious fruit profile.

Brilliant pale gold straw colour with a golden tinge to the edges. Heady ripe apricot, honeyed peach, pineapple, marmalade and spicy botrytis notes drift out of the glass with ample intensity. Elegant honeyed peach and apricot fruits are underscored by nicely balanced acidity. Dried pineapple, subtle marmalade and spice elements linger through the long luscious yet elegantly fresh finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
