2015 Woodlands Clementine Cabernets
A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 17% Petit Verdot and 11% Malbec this wine was ranked by wine writer Ray Jordan as his top wine worth $40 or less for 2017. Maturation took place in French oak 70% of which were new, the remainder one year old for a period of 18 months.
Outstanding colour displaying an impenetrable midnight black core with a bright dark red black tinged hue. Elegant yet perfumed aromatics of blackcurrant, ripe mulberries and a hint of liquorice gently overlaid by violet notes blossom from the glass. Vanillin cedar, faintly scorched earth and a faint whiff of spicy bay leaf ensue. Wonderfully elegant with an understated richness, beautifully refined blackcurrant and ripe mulberry flavours flow gracefully across the palate underpinned by perfectly integrated vanillin cedar, faint earth and subtle traces of spicy dried herbs. Supple mouthfeel with exceptionally fine, perfectly integrated tannins. Long savoury aftertaste of blackcurrant, ripe mulberries, spicy vanillin cedar, a subtle earthiness and faint bay leaf infusions. Has class stamped all over it.
