2015 Vina Cobos Cocodrilo Corte
‘The Steve Jobs of Wine’ is how Forbes magazine coined famed Napa winemaker Paul Hobbs. Vina Cobos is his Argentinian project where he fashions new world style styles of wine loaded with gob smacking fruit. In typical Paul Hobbs fashion Cocodrilo is a flamboyant, richly textured rendition of Argentinian Cabernet.
A suave Cabernet blend with supplely textured rich black fruits saturating the palate.
Produced primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon (77%) with some Malbec (15%) and Cabernet Franc (8%) also included. Ageing takes place in American oak barrels of which 20% are new for a period of 14 months. Impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Intense aromatics of cassis, ripe black cherries and liquorice fill the olfactory senses followed by hints of dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice. Rich and concentrated, boasting terrific fruit purity and an opulent mouthfeel, the palate is flooded with flavours of cassis, ripe black cherry, liquorice and dark chocolate flavours which are underpinned by faint earth and spicy vanillin oak. Velvet smooth yet structural tannins. Outstanding power with a long lavish aftertaste of cassis, liquorice, dark chocolate, faint earth and spicy vanillin oak.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 14.5%
Other Reviews….
The blend here comes through beautifully with chocolate, berry and cedar character. Medium to full body, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Always focused and precise. Drink or hold.
