2015 R.Lane Vintners Westgate Vineyard Syrah

Matured for 11 months in 20% new French oak wit 60% whole bunch inclusion. Totally opaque midnight black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Nosing offers up aromas of spicy dark plum, dark cherries and liquorice with a subtle clove overlay followed by light smoky cedar, earth, fennel and pepper. Medium bodied with an elegant, velvety mouth feel, the palate serves up flavours of ripe dark plums and liquorice infused with clove over a smoky cedar, spicy fennel and pepper back drop. Well constructed tannins provide a sturdy framework. Good depth with a long savoury aftertaste.

From the '60 plantings of the Westgate Vineyard, the R. Lane label reserved for exceptional wines in exceptional vintages. A very complex and compelling wine, with all the many components welded together so that no person should seek to set asunder. It is savoury and brambly, drenched in wild blackberry and black cherry flavours, licorice a fellow traveller, as are tannins. Drink by 2040.
