Located in the small town of Lessona, near Biella in northern Piemonte, Paolo De Marchi, owner of Isole e Olena, inherited Proprietà Sperino from his grandfather, Felice Sperino in 1999. Together with his oldest son Luca, who now runs the estate, they have set about revitalising it.
A blend of 80% Nebbiolo, 15% Vespolina and 5% Croatina. Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a red to brick red hue. Rising from the glass are red to dark cherry and red currant aromatics which are trailed by earth, dried herb, spicy cedar and subtle new leather notes. Moreish ripe red cherry and red currant fruits flow across the intensely flavoured palate leaving behind earthy leather, dried herb and spicy old cedar characters on the back half. Supple mid palate finishing with bright acidity and light grippy tannins on the long and savoury aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
