The inspiration behind Vinea Marson stems from winemaker Mario Marson’s Italian winemaking heritage stretching back some four generations. Mario’s grandfather grew and bottled Friulano, Cabernet and Merlot and his great-grandfather, Giuseppe Zaghet, was chief winemaker for the local landowner, the padrone of Villa Brunetta at Prata di Pordenone, based in Friuli in the early twentieth century. This was transferred to suburban Melbourne where his migrant father, Giuseppe, planted rows of vines in their backyard to bring wine to the dinner table each night.
Jozza is a new label for the former Mount Mary and Jasper Hill winemaker Mario Marson. Jozza gets it’s name from the local Friuli dialect translating as give me another sip. It’s a blend of 95% Shiraz and 5% Viognier with maturation taking place in French oak barriques, 30% new, for a period of 1 year.

A savoury yet sturdy Heathcote Shiraz offering a high degree of drinkability.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. The nose is filled with scents of dark plum and liquorice with hints of earthy dark chocolate, subtle clove, vanillin cedar and pepper adding interest. Driving the medium to full bodied palate and providing flesh are rich spicy dark plum and liquorice flavours. Vanillin cedar, subtle earth and peppered herb nuances lie underneath. Slightly dryish finish with muscular tannins forming the framework. Concludes long, savoury and gently chewy.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
