2015 Izway Rob & Les Shiraz
Izway is a partnership of two well-travelled winemakers Brian Conway and Craig Isbel. They like to keep things simple and minimalistic in the winemaking process putting a real emphasis on fruit purity and to this point use mostly older oak. So named as a tribute to two of the boys grandparents, the 2014 Rob & Les is sourced from John, Barb and Andy Kalleske’s Koonunga Hillside & Bruce Block vineyards located in the north of the Barossa Valley. The Hillside Vineyard produces wine with wonderful balance, elegance and structure while the Bruce Block adds depth and concentration to the wine.
A rich, powerful Barossa Shiraz with a core of ripe muscular tannins holding the lavish fruit in place.
Outstanding depth of colour displaying an impenetrable inky black core with a very deep black dark red hue. Intense aromatics of liquorice, dark plum and ripe black cherries waft from the glass underscored by vanillin cedar, hints of scorched earth and pepper. Full bodied with a dense opulent texture and terrific fruit purity the palate is swamped with rich liquorice, dark plum and blackberry flavours which hold sway over a backdrop of vanillin cedar and a good dose of spicy pepper on the finish. Outstanding concentration and power, the lavish layers of fruit for the most part concealing the sturdy yet velvet like tannins. Very long aftertaste of liquorice, ripe blackberries, dark plums, vanillin cedar and spicy pepper.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
