2015 Domaine Les Aphillanthes 1921 Rasteau
Opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Showing good intensity the nose offers up peppered black raspberry and black cherry scents followed by some liquorice, a touch of meatiness and spice. Full bodied, the very rich palate is decorated with concentrated flavours of black raspberries, black cherries and liquorice with a subtle infusion of dried meats finishing with a burst of spice and pepper. The tannins show a sturdy firmness which dries out the finish a little but are otherwise well integrated with the opulent fruit. Long black raspberry, ripe dark cherry, liquorice, dried meats and spicy pepper aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
I think the star of the lineup is the 2015 Cotes du Rhone Villages Rasteau 1921 and this Grenache-dominated blend (there’s 7% Mourvèdre and a splash of Carignan) comes from a south-facing hillside parcel of very old vines. Full-bodied, pure, polished and even finesse-oriented, it has fabulous notes of black raspberries, garrigue and flowers. It will keep for 10-12 years.
