Totally opaque black core with a deep dark red black hue. Refined aromas of blackcurrant, black olive and mulberry rise gracefully out of the glass followed by lightly toasted cedary tobacco characters and spicy bay leaf. The elegant palate is still relatively tight displaying flavours of blackcurrant infused with black olives over cigar box, dried herb and spice elements. Dry, slightly chalky tannins provide some austerity to the medium length finish.

From estate blocks A2, B3 and D2, 28 days maceration, matured for 12 months in French oak (35% new). By De Bortoli's standards, this has been made with vigorous attention to detail - the motto is it's harder to do nothing. In the final analysis, it is a wine of elegance and finesse, cassis the star of the show. Drink by 2035.
