Auld Family wines is the personal project of industry heavyweight John Auld and his two sons Jock and Sam. The family have a long history in the wine industry beginning with Patrick Auld who migrated to Australia in 1842. After trading as a publican and a wine and spirits merchant, Patrick planted the first vines at the Auldana vineyard in Magill then went on to open an office in London making him one of the first exporters of Australian wine. John himself has had a long and storied career in the wine industry spanning some 33 years working with the likes of Saltram, Yalumba (where he was one of the signatories for the 2004 Yalumba Signature) and Jim Barry where he’s currently a director.

Wilberforce is a great value introduction to the brand named after William Patrick Auld’s (Patrick Auld’s son) workhorse which led him on many successful expeditions across Australia.

A rich Cabernet dominant blend that delivers impressive value.

Matured in a mixture of American, new French and Hungarian oak for 14 months. Totally opaque black dark red core with a deep dark red hue. Pronounced aromatics of blackcurrant and liquorice laced with bay leaf merge with cigar box, earth, black olive and spicy dried herb notes. The palate impresses with its rich blackcurrant flavours delivering excellent concentration and length over a backdrop that has traces of liquorice, cigar box, black olives, bay leaf and spice. Generous, supple mid palate feel finishing with slightly drying well structured tannins and a long blackcurrant, cigar box, black olive, bay leaf and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Alc. 14.5%
