2014 Torbreck Run Rig
Produced from a blend of 98.5% Shiraz and 1.5% Viognier the wine was matured in a combination of new and old French barriques for a period of 30 months. Impenetrable black as night core with a very deep dark red black hue showing superb colour saturation. Hedonistic aromas of liquorice, black cherries and black plum waft from the glass followed by subtle infusions of dried apricot, smoky vanillin cedar, fennel and pepper. Full bodied, voluptuously rich and chewy the palate is flooded with liquorice, ripe black cherry and black plum flavours supported by ripe muscular tannins. Notions of dried apricots, smoky vanillin cedar, fennel and blackpepper are also evident. Explosive power and liqueur like concentration with a very long aftertaste of succulent black cherries, liquorice, black plums, smoky vanillin cedar, subtle fennel infusions, light spicy dried apricot and pepper.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc 15.5%
Other Reviews.....
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Run Rig opens with a bang, delivering intense fruits of the forest and blackberry preserve notes with hints of sandalwood, cardamom, dried Provence herbs, Indian spices and garrigue. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and oh, so satisfying, the beauty ticks all the great Barossa Shiraz boxes and then some. It is still relatively primary, so I’d recommend giving it another 2-3 years at least in bottle and drink it over the next 20+.
