2014 Signatory Vintage Islay Selection Bunnahabhain Staoisha 7 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Two hogsheads make up this selection from French retailer, La Maison du Whisky: No's 10591 and 10609, sourced from an Islay producer best known for its unpeated distillate. Despite being founded in 1881, the first peated Bunnahabhain was not released until 2004 (a six year old nicknamed Moine, Gaelic for ‘peat’). Named after the loch located just a short distance from the distillery, Staoisha is Bunnah's foray into the extra heavily peated category. Generally the realm of independents, these typically open with a delicate and salty maritime kind of smokiness that can be expressed as oysters, lemon juice and kippers before moving on to a more dense, earthy peat on the palate, sometimes complexed by floral, fruity, vanilla and aniseed notes. 46% Alc./Vol. Probably unchill-filtered, though not stated on the label.
