2014 Gioiello Estate Old House Merlot

Matured in French oak barriques for 18 months. Opaque dark red black core with a dark red hue. Aromas of spicy ripe red and blackcurrants intermix with mulberry, cedar, light earth and dried herbs. Medium bodied, savoury and supple the softly textured fruit shows plenty of finesse with red and blackcurrants prevalent over a back drop of mulberry, earth, subtle black olive and spicy dried herbs. Very well integrated velvet smooth like tannins. Long conclusion.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.

Hand-picked, destemmed and crushed, open-fermented, matured in French barriques for 18 months. Fragrant cherry and plum aromas lead into a palate with vibrant spicy, savoury nuances threaded through the fruits promised by the bouquet. This, so far as I am concerned, is real merlot a la Bordeaux, with good length and balance. Drink by 2029.
