2014 Edradour Lagrein Cask Finish 11 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Another red wine first, this time first-fill Lagrien butts. The varietal originates from Sud Tyrol-Alto Adige in the far-north east of Italy. Two barrels yielded 1710 bottles. 48.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... a really good whisky from a rather rare first-fill Lagrein cask from beautiful South Tyrol... A surprisingly smooth dram at 48.2% alcohol. Vanilla and other fruits join the aforementioned spices. Red ripe grapes and berries, which I can't quite grasp because of the overwhelming spice. I'm sitting by Lake Kaltern, daydreaming. But where are the oak notes? The more I drink, the more my mouth waters. Is there such a thing as sweet oak? This spice load has soaked the barrel wood. Absolutely no bitterness. Delicious, dangerously so! The finish is long and finally, some cocoa and wood. It just keeps getting better. The best part. - whiskybase.com
