2014 Curly Flat Chardonnay
Curly Flat consider the 2014 Chardonnay to be one of their finest examples. Cooler than normal spring conditions lead to smaller bunches overall post flowering which reduced crop levels, the trade off to these small bunches was an increase in intensity of flavour.
A complex Burgundian styled Chardonnay with an understated richness and great length.
Brilliant straw colour with flecks of green around the edges and a watery pale straw hue. Beautifully scented nose showing a combination of intensity, complexity and refinement. Aromas of white peaches and nectarines are married to dried honey characters, cashew, biscuity nougat and spice. Medium weighted with a creamy textural feel and excellent flavour persistence the palate is one of great finesse and class delivering a complex web of flavours that includes ripe peaches, subtle nectarine and dried honey infused with cashew followed by biscuity nougat and spice. Clean dry finish. Long conclusion of cashew, biscuity nougat, dried honey, almond and spice. Limited Stocks.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 13.5%
Other Reviews….
Hand-picked 26 Mar-14 Apr, whole bunch-pressed, fermented 11-16 days in French oak (43% new), matured for 18 months, 50% mlf. This is an exercise in lusciously layered complexity and power, taken only after endless trials over previous vintages, but also respecting the integrity of the fruit. Radically different to the Cope-Williams Chardonnay tasted alongside. Drink by 2027.
