2014 Craiglee Shiraz

Totally opaque black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Aromas of blackpepper, subtle liquorice, smoky vanillin cedar, earthy dried clove and spice emerge from the glass. Very elegant, the refined palate is littered with blackpepper over traces of liquorice, subtle black cherries, smoky cedar, black olives and spicy scorched earth. Bright structured feel with a slightly dryish finish and finely grained tannins. Aftertaste of pepper, subtle liquorice, smoked meats, faint vanillin cedar, scorched earth and spicy black olives.

Has the guile that is at the heart of Craiglee style, the flavours fresh, with more red fruit than black, an omnipresent pinch of spice, and a splash of licorice and forest all combining to seduce the senses before you register the underlying intensity and length of the fruit. Tannins and French oak are also present, but it's not until the finish and aftertaste that they leave their mark. Drink by 2034.

In terms of personal preference with regards to style, I like the 2013. In terms of absolute quality, hard to pick them apart.
Violet, black pepper, blackberry, meat and spice, almost into liquorice. Full bodied, tobacco and savoury stuff, perhaps a touch clunky right now, but brighter feel in the mouth with raspberry and spices, and good long finish. Almost ropey tannin here, and it feels very much a vin de garde. Very good, but wait. Drink 2022-2038
