2013 Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Shiraz
The Frost Dodger Shiraz is aptly named because it’s sourced from an 18 year old vineyard that is prone to Spring frosts. Drawing inspiration from his Italian heritage winemaker Domenic Torzi employs a number of techniques including a portion of rack dried fruit, 35% whole bunch inclusion and basket pressing. Yields for the 2013 vintage were a miserly 2.3 tons per acre and maturation took place in 30% new French and Hungarian oak 500 litre barrels with the balance in seasoned French oak for a period of 20 months.
Rich, savoury and sumptuous this is a stunning Eden Valley Shiraz that dazzles the senses.
Superb colour displaying a saturated inky black crimson core with a very deep dark crimson red black hue. Intoxicating aromatics of liquorice, distinct blackpepper, black cherries and blackberries are overlaid with smoky cedar and spicy dried meats. The palate is equally impressive unleashing succulently textured flavours of liquorice, blackberries and black cherries that fully encompass every crevasse of the mouth. Also adding further interest are smoky dried meat characters and spice. Bold, very rich and perfectly balanced with cashmere like tannins. Outstanding power with a very long liquorice, ripe black cherry, smoky cedar, dried meats and blackpepper aftertaste.
