2013 Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir

From the dream 2013 vintage utilising about a dozen different clones of Pinot Noir with many of the vines nearly 30 years old this Burgundian inspired Pinot was produced using small vat fermentation of grapes, 10% whole bunch inclusion, hand plunging to moisten the cap and gentle separation of the wine before 18 months maturation in French oak barriques.

Rich and concentrated with a powerhouse of flavour that sails on and on.

Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Powerful ripe dark cherry and dark plum aromas laced with anise are followed by toasty oak, some meatiness and dried herb infusions. Possessing a magnificent power wave the palate is flooded with rich spicy dark cherry and plum flavours underpinned by anise, toasty cedar, dried meats and even more spice. The tannins are fine grained yet have some underlying muscle which bodes well for the longer term. The finish energetic and long with an aftertaste of spicy dark cherries, anise infusions, dark plums, toasty oak and a spiced meatiness.
