2013 Nautilus Pinot Noir

Fruit from Pinot Noir clones 114, 115, 5, 667, 777 and Abel was hand harvested and de-stemmed without crushing to allow a portion of whole berries in the ferment. A small amount of whole bunch fruit was also included in some ferments. Maturation took place in a mixture of new and older French oak barriques for approximately 12 months.

Semi translucent bright dark red colour with a crimson red hue. Lifted ripe dark cherry and plum aromas laced with anise rise from the glass with undercurrents of dried herbs, some meatiness and spicy cedar. Light to medium weight showing excellent richness and power the palate dishes up delicious flavours of spicy dark cherries and dark plums infused with anise over some meaty characters and lightly toasted cedar with the spiciness persisting onto the finish. Very fine grained, perfectly integrated tannins. Superb length with a long conclusion of spicy ripe dark cherries, dark plum, anise, meaty cedar and spice.
