2013 Houghton Wisdom Cabernet Sauvignon
With a history spanning over 175 years, the Houghton label was bought to prominence by winemaker Jack Mann who oversaw 51 consecutive vintages. The Wisdom label taking its inspiration from the wise words of this legendary wine maker. 2013 was amongst a string of outstanding Margaret vintages producing perfectly ripened fruit of great purity. The 2013 Wisdom was matured for 14 months in French oak barriques, 30% of which was new and the balance 1 and 2 year old oak.
With 5 years bottle age behind it, this superb rich, structured Margaret River Cabernet delivers remarkable value.
Opens with outstanding colour displaying a black as night core and a deep dark red black hue. Potent ripe blackcurrant aromas fill the nostrils with hints of liquorice and bay leaf also chiming in over a background of cedary tobacco characters, subtle black olives and spice. Rich, deep and full bodied, ripe blackcurrant, liquorice and dark mulberry flavours unravel across the palate flooding every corner of the mouth with an underpinning of cedary tobacco characters, black olive, bay leaf and spice elements. Ably backing the rich, powerful and concentrated layers of fruit is a sturdy tannin framework. Long rich aftertaste of ripe blackcurrants, mulberry, subtle liquorice, cigar box, black olives and spice. Multiple Trophy winner.
