As with films, Heartland’s Director’s Cut is regarded as the definitive version – no compromises are made with only the very best parcels of Shiraz selected from each vintage. The fruit for the 2013 vintage was sourced from some of the best vineyards in Langhorne Creek with an age of 25-30 years old. In the vineyard a strict hand pruning method – vendange verte (green harvest) is employed involving the removal of selected bunches of green grapes before maturity, which reduces yield, and allows maximum concentration of flavour and colour in the remaining berries. Maturation took place in a combination of French (80%) and American oak (20%), all of which was new, for a period of 14 months.

Outstanding depth of colour displaying a midnight black core with a very deep dark red black tinged hue. Powerful aromas of liquorice, dark chocolate and blackberry waft from the glass with underlying hints of vanillin oak, subtle mocha and faint mint also present. Rich, dense and long the palate delivers opulent flavours of dark chocolate, liquorice, blackberry and mocha with plenty of structure lurking beneath the fruit. Spicy vanillin oak and a touch of spearmint follow up on the back palate. Velvety yet structural tannins. Excellent concentration and persistence with a very long aftertaste of dark chocolate, mocha, liquorice, vanillin oak and subtle spearmint.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc 14.5%
