2013 Charteris The Astral Vineyard Chardonnay

Brilliant very pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Lifted top notes of white peach, ripe nectarine and lemon butter are followed by some dried honey, nougat and spice. Rich, ripe white peach and nectarine flavours dominate the palate over dried honey, lemon butter and a touch of nougat. Creamy textural feel with a dry fresh finish. Long white peach, dried honey, nougat and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 4-5 years.

Matured in two French puncheons (one new) and three French barriques. It has a complex, faintly funky, bouquet ex 100% mlf (essential to reduce acidity) and repeated lees stirring. Despite this, it is remarkably fine and tight, possibly protected with all movements in the cellar by gravity. These are high spirited wines, and need a gentle hand to calm them. Drink by 2033.
