2012 The Whisky Jury Bunnahabhain (Moine) Bottled for Australia Single Cask 9 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Since the late 1990s, peaty Bunnahs have been steadily released under the 'Moine’ label ('mon-ye' - Scots Gaelic for ‘Peat’). This one's bottled by 'The Whisky Jury', just for Australia, and comes finished in an Oloroso cask. Heavy peat and heavy sherry, what could go wrong? The result speaks volumes for the beauty of young whisky when carefully selected and matured: This is an effortless and wonderfully tasty single cask exuding maximum flavour, and a large part of its appeal is its youthful verve. The colour is advanced, testimony to an active cask, confirmed by the nose and palate. Sweet peat reek, dark chocolate, Fisherman's Friends cough lozenges and a touch of lanolin are delivered in a remarkably pure and mouthfilling attack before a finishing blast of maritime freshness leaves an indelible Islay mark. It's a beefy malt carrying serious smoke matched up against sherry goodness, all in near perfect balance. Clearly on track for picking winners, The Whisky Jury are based in Mechelen, Belgium, with an ethos that ignores age statements and brand reputations. Quality is king. They comment, "In times where single cask whisky is extremely expensive, we will keep prices as low as possible so that these bottles will be opened and not just collected... If the whisky bubble bursts… it is quality that will survive." Our sentiments exactly! 56.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 157 bottles for Australia only.
