2012 Hewitson Basham's Beach Tempranillo

This very Rioja like Tempranillo was matured for 20 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques. Opaque black dark red colour with a very dark red to brick red hue. The nose exhibits scents of black cherries interspersed with hints of black olives and liquorice followed by some new leather, faint scorched earth and spice. Medium to full bodied the palate opens up round and supple drying out towards the finish. Generous black cherry and liquorice flavours overlay some toasty cedar, scorched earth and spice. Dryish, solidly built but fine grained tannins. Long aftertaste of black cherries, liquorice, scorched earth and spicy toasted cedar.
