Rob Gibson’s story began in the early 1980s when Penfold's Chief winemaker formulated a project to identify the very best quality Shiraz grapes for Grange Hermitage. This ground breaking work developed new assessments about the production of the best Shiraz and connected vineyard block characteristics at verasion and again prior to harvest with the resultant wine characters and wine value. Gibson led the project until he left to start 'Gibson Barossavale Wines' in 1997. The 2012 Gibson Reserve Shiraz contains an 11% Cabernet Sauvignon component with maturation taking place in predominately French oak (70%) for a period of 20 months of which 50% of that was new.

‘A Super Classy Barossa Shiraz’

Impenetrable inky black dark crimson colour with deep dark crimson red black hue. Perfumed aromas of dark plum and liquorice arise from the glass followed by some dark chocolate, subtle vanillin mocha like characters and spice. Full bodied the palate features a rich, yet refined flavour profile that seamlessly glides across the palate. Mouthfilling flavours of liquorice, blackberry and dark chocolate are underpinned by some vanillin cedar qualities with a spice and pepper back palate. Beautiful supple texture with silky smooth polished tannins. Long aftertaste of liquorice, blackberry, vanillin confectionary and spicy pepper aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years (2020-2022).
Alc 14.5%
