2011 Seppelt Original Sparkling Shiraz

Seppelt has had more experience with this unique Australian wine style than any other winemaker. Although there are no precise records, it appears the winery was experimenting with sparkling red wines as far back as the 1890s.
Matured in old large format oak for 12 months, then aged on lees in bottle for 18 months this sparkling shiraz pours well with a purple tinged frothy mousse that shows excellent hold. Exceptionally fine bead showing good persistence with a deep dark red purple base wine colour. Nosing reveals ripe plum and blackberry top notes followed by a hint of liquorice and some toasty vanillin oak. The palate is filled with ripe blackberry and dark plum fruit flavours which are dominate over some liquorice and vanillin confectionary. Good concentration and depth with medium to long ripe blackberry, dark plum, liquorice and vanillin confectionary aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
