2011 McHenry Hohnen Cabernet Merlot

This excellent Margaret River blend comprises approximately 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Merlot, with small parcels of petit verdot and malbec making up the balance. Maturation takes place in French oak barriques, 10% of which are new, for a period of 9 months.

Opaque black dark red colour with deep dark red hue. Nosing reveals lifted, almost perfumed scents of ripe blackcurrant and mulberry followed by some tobacco, cedar and spice. The palate boasts excellent weight and generosity delivering mouthfilling blackcurrant and dark mulberry flavours in abundance with a light overlay of bay leaf followed by some cedary cigar box and spice characters. Slightly dryish and solid the tannins are still relatively fine grained and provide ample support to the wines richness. Long blackcurrant, ripe mulberry, tobacco and spicy cedar aftertaste.
Cellar 4-5 years (2017-2018).
