2011 Hart Brothers Balmenach 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

An unusual single cask, bottled at a high ABV but not cask strength. Situated on the River Spey in the very heart of Speyside, the Balmenach distillery was an illicit operation when it started producing in 1801. It wasn't until 1824 that James MacGregor, the original founder and local farmer decided to licence his “peat shed” as a distillery. It was closed in 1993, and was bought by Inverhouse Distillers Ltd in December 1997. Production restarted in March 1998. This edition from Hart Brothers promises a lightly coloured malt, suggesting it was matured in a Bourbon cask. Expect something a little citrusy with a hint of ginger and green apples. More than likely this is not chill filtered, however it's not stated on the label. 50% Alc./Vol.
