2010 Mr Riggs Shiraz

In 2002 we tasted the inaugural 2001 vintage release of “Mr.Riggs” Shiraz, which we described as "destined to become a new cult wine". In a relatively short time, this wine has earned an enviable reputation, keenly anticipated by wine lovers around the world, with some vintages selling out within weeks. The 2010 Mr. Riggs Shiraz is a blend of four great McLaren Vale Shiraz vineyards; Penny’s Hill, Piebald Gully, Edgehill and Bradens. The vineyards are owned/managed by four of the best-known McLaren Vale growers, namely Tony Parkinson (Penny’s Hill), Ben Riggs (Piebald Gully) and Joch Bosworth (Edgehill and Bradens). Components from all four vineyards were fermented in traditional open fermenters, and following pressing, finished their fermentation in oak of which approximately 80% was French and the balance American, 40% of which was new oak. Vineyard parcels were kept separate during fermentation and maturation with blending taking place three months prior to bottling.

Tasting Note….
Outstanding super saturated inky black crimson colour with very deep black dark crimson red hue. Magnificent nose with perfumed scents of ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum wafting from the glass with some underlying aromas of dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice. Dark, rich and densely concentrated the palate is packed with copious levels of fruit that are wrapped up in a polished fleshy mouthfeel. Expansive flavours of ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate swamp the palate followed by some subtle mocha, vanillin oak and spice. Silky smooth tannins create a plush opulent texture. Outstanding depth and persistence with exceptionally long ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate, subtle vanillin oak and spice aftertaste.
