This Shiraz heavy cuvee (80%) with equal parts Grenache and Mourvedre is a Rhone lover's cornucopia. Gilligan's is a genuine family affair with Sami, Robyn, Jess and Ross Gilligan overseeing the vineyards. Winemaking is done by Mark Day of Koltz fame and Leigh Gilligan (one of the partners behind Dowie Doole). Some of the juice for the 2010 release was fermented on Roussanne lees to give additional silkiness and texture to the palate.

Super saturated inky black colour with deep black crimson hue. The nose displays lifted dark plum aromas followed by some black raspberry, liquorice and confectionary. Rich and voluptuously textured the palate delivers a flamboyant joosy flavour profile of black plum, liquorice and ripe blackberry followed by a hint of earth and a spicy peppery back palate. Soft very fine grained tannins. Long liquorice, blackberry, earth and blackpepper aftertaste. Drink over the next 3-4 years (2012-2016)
Alc 15.0%

Other Reviews….
Dense purple-crimson; a powerful, voluptuous, full-bodied wine; the flavours are of black (predominant) and red fruits combined with earthy/ chocolatey notes affirming its terroir; the tannins and oak are of the appropriate weight given the density of the black fruit flavours. Will be long lived.
