While the Cru Bourgeois Monbrison does not command the same prices as Chateaux Margaux or Palmer, the Estate enjoys a religious following by wine enthusiasts. It gained fame as a 'go to'' estate for excellent wines in difficult vintages. Perhaps the desire of the owners to produce and interprete the typicity and idea of Margaux wines in their own way, rather than engaging in a race for points, is the warrant for drinker's satisfaction. When looking at value for money, Monbrison appears to be an indecent proposal and gives credence to the idea that Margaux wines can be a democratic pleasure!

Totally opaque black dark crimson colour with dark crimson black tinged hue. The nose displays violet and blackcurrant top notes followed by some mulberry, cigar box, light earth and spice. Medium weight the palate has a refined and elegant mouthfeel with flavours of blackcurrant and mulberry followed by some cedar, earth and spice. Dryish, dusty, fine grained, well integrated tannins. Refined conclusion of blackcurrant, mulberry, cedar and spice. Lovely lighter elegantly styled claret.
Cellar 5-6 years (2019-2020).
Alc 13.5%

Other Reviews...
This has tangy energy, with singed mesquite and sanguine notes leading to juicy mulberry, cassis and plum fruit. The long, charcoal-threaded finish offers ample grip and a serious hint of iron. A lovely showing for this estate. Best from 2014 through 2027.

Soft and fruity with pretty fruit and a clean, spicy finish. Full body with fine tannins and a wonderful chewy mouthfeel. I like this better than 2009. Better in 2016.
