A Fantastic Value from Rhone – One not to be Missed!

Tardieu-Laurent is a negociant founded in 1994 as a partnership between Michel Tardieu, (who among other jobs has served as a driver for French Presidents) and Dominique Laurent, owner of a negociant firm in Burgundy. Today Michel Tardieu runs the firm on his own. He takes advice from the enormously influential Philippe Cambie, who also happens to be the Rhone consultant responsible for many of our other Rhone offerings. Opaque black dark purple colour with dark purple red hue. The nose shows good perfumed lift with aromas of dark raspberry and black cherry followed by some liquorice, dried meats and spice. Impressive weight and richness with almost opulent like flavours of black cherry, liquorice, spicy dried meats, earth and pepper. Dryish finish with very fine grained tannins. Excellent depth with long black cherry, liquorice, earthy dried meats and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years (2013-2018)

The old stand-by of Michel Tardieu is the 2009 Cotes du Rhone Guy Louis. This wine is about 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, all coming from three sectors – Cairanne, Rasteau, and the vast ocean of mostly Grenache-based vineyards known as the Plan de Dieu. Impressively endowed, medium to full-bodied, with ripe red and black fruits, camphor, barbecue spices, and underbrush, the wine is textured, rich, and very impressive. It should also drink well for 4-5 years.
