While Martinborough and Central Otago have taken the lead at the premium end of New Zealand Pinot production, Pinots from Marlborough are fast filling the middle market.

The 2009 Saint Clair is a perfect example of the very quaffable and affordable wines we're seeing from the region.

Semi translucent crimson mauve colour with mauve hue. Lifted top notes of anise and strawberry followed by some dark cherry and a touch of spicy cedar showing excellent intensity. The palate displays good weight and is very fruit driven with flavours of dark cherry, spice, anise and strawberry. Good power wave. Very soft fine grained tannins with aftertaste of dark cherry, anise and spicy cedar.
