2009 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz
Totally opaque black dark crimson red colour with very deep black crimson hue. Aromas of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry are at the fore, followed by some liquorice and cedary vanillin like characters showing good intensity. Full bodied the palate is very concentrated and delivers a ripe rich flavour profile of blackberry, cassis and liquorice followed by some vanillin confectionary like characters and spice. Displaying the richness of Shiraz and structural components of Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a very well balanced and structured Bin 389. Fine grained, slightly dryish tannins. Long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice and spice.
Alc 14.5%
Other Reviews….
There is true depth of aroma and flavour in this wine, ranging from fragrant florals to menacing black fruits, all offset by sweet spices and well-handled oak; full-bodied, with full-throttle tannins, bright acid and an exceedingly long finish. This will cellar brilliantly, but is not likely to get the chance. Drink by 2030.
