2009 Oliver's Taranga Vineyards DJ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

This is the first release of a new 100% Cabernet sourced from a block planted in 1973 by Corrina Wright's grandfather. 2009 was a very low cropping vintage thanks to a heat wave during flowering. However, it was a year when Cabernet Sauvignon excelled in McLaren Vale hence the decision to inaugurate this wine. This is a big Cabernet, matured for 24 months in new French oak.

Superb totally opaque inky black dark purple colour with deep black dark purple hue. The nose displays scents of violets, youthful ripe blackcurrant, a hint of dark chocolate, cedar and spice. Boasting excellent weight and richness the palate delivers mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackcurrant, black cherry, liquorice, a touch of tobacco, cedar and spice. Solid, slightly chewy but fine grained tannins provide excellent structure. Superb depth with long ripe blackcurrant, black cherry, cedary tobacco and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-8 years (2017-2020).
