2009 Hugues Godme Grand Cru Vintage Champagne
An excellent follow up to the superb 2008 vintage. A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir disgorged in October 2019 after 9 years on lees. A generous fluffy white mousse eventually dissipates to reveal a pale straw coloured base that has gold tinged edges and is threaded by an exceptionally fine bead of great persistence. Rich and very expressive out of the glass are baked bread, light citrus and yeast lees aromatics followed by some biscuity dried honey and light almond notes. The rich, powerful palate is brimming with baked bread, yeast lees and citrus flavours that have a creamy like feel. Oily toast like characters, subtle dried honey and roast almond elements then move in on the back half. Excellent intensity with crisp acidity refreshing the long finish that has lingering notions of yeast lees, oily toast and dried nuts to it.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
