'Amon' and 'Ra' were two deities rolled into one to become the Sun God of ancient Egyptian mythology. With this release Ben Glaetzer has created a wine of mythic proportions. Sunshine and old Barossa vines transform fruit into an epic Australian red that's a must for Shiraz devotees.

An enormous yet refined effort, this solidly structured Barossa Shiraz will reward mid to long term cellaring

Following on from two challenging vintages, 2009 was spectacular in the Barossa, summed up by Ben Glaetzer as ‘a gift of a vintage’. Near perfect conditions along with extremely low yields of 0.5 tonnes per acre produced fruit with full ripeness, silky tannin balance and immense concentration. Sourced from dry grown old vines (50-130 years) the Amon Ra was completely matured in new oak for 16 months (90% French and 10% American oak).

Totally opaque black purple colour with very deep dark purple black hue. The nose is already displaying complexity with perfumed aromas of blackberry, liquorice allsorts and confectionary followed by some pepper and vanillin end notes. The palate is that rare Barossa interplay of finesse and power. It refrains from relying solely on sheer size and extraction like so many other Barossan extravaganzas. Full bodied, with generous mouthfilling flavours of blackberry, blackpepper and liquorice followed by some vanilla and confectionary with the blackpepper persisting onto the back palate. Outstanding length and persistence of flavour. Perfectly balanced, velvet smooth tannins with an exceptionally long aftertaste of blackpepper, blackberry and liquorice.
Cellar 5-8 years (2015-2018).
Alc 14.5%
