The wines of Coriole have become benchmarks in McLaren Vale, reflecting the consistency of quality that the district is capable of delivering. The original Coriole vineyard dates back to 1919, which the Lloyd family secured when they purchased the property in 1967. Further planting took place in the 1960's and 1990's with the main variety planted being Shiraz. The McLaren Vale terroir is influenced by the maritime climate, with windy, cool winters followed by warm to hot, dry summers which facilitated the production of wines of a consistently high standard. Many McLaren Vale winemakers consider the district the best place in the world to grow grapes. The 2009 vintage marking the 40th consecutive release of Coriole Shiraz.

A rich peppery McLaren Vale Shiraz that possesses a similar structure to the 2009 Cote du Rhone reds.

Totally opaque, black dark crimson red colour with deep, dark crimson red hue. Aromas of liquorice, blackberry, light toast and blackpepper. Full bodied and boasting plenty of rich fruit the palate also possesses a strong blackpepper component. Mouthfilling flavours of liquorice and blackpepper are followed by some meaty earth like characters with the blackpepper component persisting onto the back palate. Dry, slightly firmish and grippy tannins but in balance with long aftertaste of blackpepper, liquorice and dried meat.

Good purple-red hue; the grapes are hand-plunged in open fermenters, then matured in French oak; the wine is positively plush and richly textured, with black fruits, bitter chocolate and licorice supported by French oak and ripe tannins. A long life ahead. Drink By: 2024
