2008 Pondalowie Vineyard Shiraz
Prior to establishing Pondalowie in 1997, winemakers Dominic and Krystina Morris worked vintages in Australia and Portugal, with Krystina spending time at St Hallett and Boar’s Rock. The vineyard is predominately planted to Shiraz and Tempranillo. This wine was matured for 24 months in a combination of French and American oak and racked up to 4 times before blending.
A big, rich plushly textured Central Victorian Shiraz.
Opaque black crimson colour with deep very dark crimson red hue. Lifted notes of ripe blackberry and liquorice arise from the glass resulting in an intense sniff followed by some toasty vanillin oak and confectionary nuances. Thick, joosy and rich the palate delivers mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberry and liquorice supported by some toasty vanillin oak characters and light weight mocha. Voluptuous flamboyant mouthfeel and velvety tannins. Long liquorice, blackberry, vanillin oak and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years (2016-2017)
Profoundly deep and dense purple-crimson; an unashamedly full-bodied wine, plush and velvety, with multiple layers of blackberry fruit providing the flesh, abundant ripe tannins and oak providing length, line and balance.
Drink by 2030.
