2008 Pol Roger Vintage Blanc de Blancs Champagne
The 2008 Brut Blanc de Blancs is exclusively made from Chardonnay grapes selected from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs : Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize and Oger. Produced in limited quantities, this Cuvée has been aged for 7 years in Pol Roger’s cellars before being released onto the market.
A sublime Blanc de Blancs Champagne of great refinement and class with great potential for further development.
Pours with a white frothy mousse that shows excellent hold. Pale straw colour with a trace of pale gold around the edges. Exceptionally fine bead that shows excellent persistence. The nose presents a superb sniffing experience that’s oodling with class, refinement and complexity. Intense aromatics of baked bread interwoven with subtle pear and citrus are overlaid by yeast lees characters with a light toastiness and cashew notes following. Fresh and lively with a creaminess about the middle palate and finish this superb Champagne features delicate pear and citrus flavours intermixed with baked bread and yeast lees over a background of toast and a touch of hazelnut. Clean dry finish. Long aftertaste of baked bread, yeast lees, citrus, toastiness and subtle hazelnut.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 12.5%
Other Reviews….
This 100% Cote des Blancs Grand Cru simply demands its inclusion, notwithstanding my tasting note finishing 'just a baby'. Bright green-straw hue, it has exquisite freshness and balance, the bouquet filled by scents of white flowers, the palate with pink grapefruit in a glittering necklace of acidity. Will fill you with joy tonight, wonderment five years hence. I’ve bought my share.
